Centralized Admission Process (CAP) & Seat Allotment Rules

Centralized Admission Process (CAP)

Once MHT CET / JEE Main results are declared, engineering admissions in Maharashtra are managed entirely by the State Common Entrance Test Cell through the Centralized Admission Process (CAP). Once results are out, students must register, get their documents verified at a Facilitation Center (FC), and fill out preference forms during the CAP rounds.

MHT CET CAP (Centralized Admission Process) features a 3-round allotment system. Seats are allocated based on merit rank, category, and preference order. If you receive a seat, you can choose to “Freeze” it to confirm admission, or opt for “Betterment” (float) to wait for a higher-preference college in subsequent rounds.

Key CAP Rules to Keep in Mind

The “1-3-6 Rule” During CAP Counselling

The “1-3-6 Rule” during Centralized Admission Process (CAP) counseling dictates the auto-freezing conditions:

If a seat is auto-freezed, you must accept it and cannot participate in subsequent rounds.

Detailed CAP 1-3-6 Rules Breakdown

In the state of Maharashtra (such as for MHT-CET, MCA, or Law CET counseling), the seat allotment system automatically “freezes” your admission based on the preferences you mark as higher priorities. The priority is determined strictly by the order in which you arranged your colleges and courses during the choice-filling window.

RoundAuto-Freeze ConditionWhat Happens
CAP Round 1Topmost (1st) preference allottedThe seat automatically gets frozen. You cannot opt for “betterment” or participate in Round 2; taking the seat is compulsory. If you are allotted any lower preference, you can choose to accept it or float it for the next round.
CAP Round 2Seat falls within top 3 choices (1st, 2nd or 3rd preference)It auto-freezes. You must finalize your admission, and you are barred from participating in Round 3.
CAP Round 3Seat falls within top 6 choicesIt is auto-freezed, closing off your eligibility for further rounds.
Final Round (CAP 4)Any seat allottedWhatever seat is allotted to you is final. You must confirm your admission, as there will be no further betterment rounds.

Other Important Rules to Keep in Mind

Always verify the specific information bulletin for your entrance exam at the official State CET Cell website, as CAP rules can be revised each admission cycle.
